Applying by Mail or Renewing a Visa

Postal Applications

There are two types of applications that can be posted in, as outlined below. In each instance, the applicant is not required to attend an interview, but must still submit a complete application.

Renewing A Visa

If you are applying for a visa that you have previously been approved for, such as a work visa or tourist visa, you may qualify to post in your application. Please review the requirements at our Visa Renewal Checklist

Applicants Younger Than 14 and Older Than 79

Applicants younger than 14 and older than 79 do not need to be fingerprinted, and as such are often excused from attending an interview, provided that they are citizens or permanent residents of the Consular district the application is posted to. Applicants who are neither citizens or permanent residents of Australia must appear in person, regardless of age.

Applications that are posted in must include the following, along with the standard application requirements:

  • A letter outlining the purpose of travel, which should include an itinerary

Requirements specific to children:

  • Copy of parent/s or guardians issued visa or ESTA approval
  • Proof of relationship between the parent and child; ie. birth certificate, adoption papers
  • If one parent is not travelling, it is recommended that the second parent or guardian include a notarized letter from that parent or guardian authorizing the travel, along with copies of both parents' passports or identity documents. Alternatively, you may wish to bring court documents demonstrating that the applying parent has sole custody of the minor child.

Please note, the adjudicating consular officer may still request an interview based on the specifics of an application.
