American Citizen Services (ACS) Unit

We provide services to residents and individuals in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), New South Wales, Queensland and Norfolk Island.

The ACS Unit provides emergency assistance, U.S. passport and citizenship services and assistance with federal benefit inquiries such as U.S. Social Security and Veterans Affairs.
 
The ACS Unit does not answer inquiries regarding U.S. Visas. Visa inquiries received by the ACS Unit are not responded to. For visa assistance, please refer to:

• Non-Immigrant Visa information for non-immigrant visas (tourist, work).
• Immigrant Visa information for immigrant visa inquiries (immigrating to the U.S., diversity visa, etc).
• Permanent Resident information for green card inquiries.

Please ensure that all correspondence mailed to the American Citizen Services unit is addressed to the attention of the "ACS Unit". Applicants seeking services from the ACS unit must schedule an online appointment before arriving at the U.S. Consulate General Reception on level 10 of the MLC Centre.

Email inquiries are answered by the ACS Unit at the Consulate throughout the business day; however more complex inquiries are generally responded to within 1-2 business days. Please note that emails sent over the weekend or on Australian and U.S. public holidays will be responded to on the next business day.

If calling from the United States, dial 01-612-9373-9200 option 2. If you call outside of our phone hours, you will have the option to leave a voicemail message and we will call you back. Please state your name and phone number and a brief summary of your inquiry.

The U.S. Consulate General’s after hours emergency contact service is available in the event of an emergency, such as the death, arrest or serious injury of an American citizen in Australia. If calling from the United States, dial 01-61-2-4422-2201.
