How to Apply for the Fingerprint Reissue/Reuse Program

Eligible applicants must meet all of the requirements for The Fingerprint Reuse Program.

Applying for the visa

All applicants (except officials and diplomats, whose requirements differ slightly) must have the following:

• Completed Electronic Visa Application Form DS-160 (https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/). Please note that U.S. Consulates and Embassies no longer accept handwritten application forms. You must complete the application form online, print out the confirmation page with a barcode, and bring it to the interview with you
• Please read carefully the requirements to upload your photo and the photo specifications before you begin. If the photo is not successfully uploaded into the DS-160, a recent photo (50×50mm) on a white background will be required. Digital photos will not be accepted
• A valid passport or travel document. If your previous visa was issued in a previous, expired passport, it must be submitted along with the new passport.
• The original receipt of the world-wide non-refundable application fee of USD131.00, payable at any Australia Post outlet. For further information regarding this fee, please refer to our fee information page.
• In addition to the Application Fee, some visas and nationalities require additional fees, payable to the Consulate after the application is approved. These fees can be paid by bank checks or money order payable to “U.S. Consulate.” Personal or company checks are not accepted. Fees for Australian passport holders can be found on our fees page.
• A prepaid, self addressed Platinum Express Post, Registered Post or courier satchel for the return of your passport.
• Other documents:

  Students, temporary workers, and exchange visitors must include original petitions or official notifications.

  Ship or aircraft crew must have a letter of employment on the company letterhead.

  Treaty traders and investors, fiancé(s) and religious workers may require supporting/supplemental information.

Please send your application confirmation page, valid passport, supporting documents and return envelope to NIV Section, U.S. Consulate General, 19-29 Martin Place, Sydney NSW 2000.

What else do I need to Know?

Eligible candidates for The Fingerprint Reissue/Reuse Program may not require an interview with a consular officer. If you have already provided a full set of ten fingerprints, your application will be reviewed upon receipt. If you are deemed to be eligible for The Fingerprint Reissue/Reuse Program and your application documents are found to be in order, your visa will be issued. Otherwise, the Consulate staff will inform you that a personal appearance at the Consulate will be required.

Even applicants who meet all of the requirements may still be required to attend an interview. A decision on the interview waiver is solely at the discretion of the reviewing officer.
