The American Citizen Services (ACS) section provides information and assistance to U.S. citizens in Australia. American Citizen Services consists of the Passport & Citizenship and Special Consular Services sections. For information on American Citizen Services please make your selection from the options on the menu at the left side of this page.
To be allowed entry into the consular section for routine (non-emergency) services, you must make an appointment online at the Consulate that serves your area. If you can conduct your business by mail or online, please do so. Note: If the particular service you need does not require a personal appearance at the Consulate, you will be instructed to submit your application by mail.
Expressions of interest for our July Outreach to Brisbane and Cairns are now closed. If you would like to express your interest for future outreaches please email QueenslandACS@State.gov. Your email should include your name(s), address, telephone number, and the type of service you are requesting (Passport, Report of Birth or both). You will be placed on a waiting list for our next outreach.
Our next outreach is tentatively scheduled for the end of 2009. If you would like to submit an application for a Passport and/of Report of Birth Abroad please email us on QueenslandACS@State.gov and you will be contacted in the future relating to the outreach.
Note: We will only be accepting applications for U.S. passports and/or Consular Reports of Birth Abroad. No visa services will be available.
The Consul’s Corner is a newsletter designed to keep the American community in Australia connected with their diplomatic representatives in Australia. The latest edition is now available!
U.S. citizens living or traveling abroad are encouraged to register with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate through the State Department’s travel registration website at https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ui/. Those who register will receive updated information on travel and security. Registration also makes it easier for the Embassy or Consulate to make contact in an emergency.
Survey on Possible Outreach to American Citizens residing in other areas outside of Sydney Metropolitan
The U.S. Consulate General Sydney has previously made periodic Consular visits to Cairns and Brisbane in order to assist U.S. citizens with accepting applications for U.S. passports, Consular Reports of Births Abroad of U.S. Citizens, and U.S. Social Security applicants 12 years and older.
We are considering expanding the Consular visits to other cities throughout the A.C.T., New South Wales, and Queensland in late 2009. Please note, we are not guaranteeing any Consular visits at this time. However, if we receive enough expressions of interest in areas that warrant a Consular visit, we will make all efforts to perform the Consular visit between August and December 2009.
The cities that we would consider for a Consular visit are:
| ACT | NSW | QLD |
|---|---|---|
| Canberra | Bega Broken Hill Dubbo Coffs Harbour Newcastle Port Macquarie Tamworth Wollongong Lismore Bathurst |
Bundaberg Cairns Mackay Rockhampton Townsville Roma |
For individuals who would like to submit an expression of interest, please email SydneyOutreachACS@state.gov. Please include the city name and state, and the type of service you are requesting, i.e. submitting an application for a U.S. passport and/or Consular Report of Birth Abroad, and/or Social Security Number (for applicants 12 and older).
We will collect expressions of interest online only until May 31, 2009. After this date, we will then compile expressions of interest received to determine where it will be feasible to perform Consular visits. All individuals who send an expression of interest email will find the results on this webpage by June 15, 2009 or thereafter.
Please note that at the present time we are unable to perform any type of visa related activity away from the Consulates.
